Oscilloscope Parts (Oscilloscope Control and Indicators)

Oscilloscope Parts (Oscilloscope Control and Indicators) – Oscilloscope is one of the measuring instruments that are very useful in testing and measuring an Electronic circuit. With an oscilloscope, we can see the waveforms in the Electronic circuit both in the form of sinus waves and other waveforms. In the previous article has discussed about the understanding of Oscilloscopes and the specifications of determining their performance, then in this article we will discuss about the important parts in an Oscilloscope which include such as buttons and Control Switches and Indicators contained in the Oscilloscope.

Control Switches and Indicators contained in an Oscilloscope are basically almost the same between one model and another model. However, because the features of oscilloscope and its manufacturers vary, the number and layout of controls and indicators also vary according to the features and models applied by the manufacturer.

Oscilloscope Buttons/Switches and Indicators

The Control Button/Switch and Oscilloscope Indicator based on the image above are as follows:

  1. Power ON/OFF
ButtonTombol Power ON/OFF serves to turn oscilloscope on and off
  2. Indicator Light
Bulb serves as an Oscilloscope Indication in an ON (live light) or OFF (Dead Light) state
  3. ROTATIONRotation on the Oscilloscope serves to adjust the position of the line display on the screen to stay in a horizontal position. To set this rotation, you usually have to use a screwdriver to rotate it.
  4. INTENSITYIntensity is used to adjust the brightness of the waveform display for easy viewing.
  5. FOCUSFocus is used to adjust the appearance of waveforms so they don’t blur
  6. CAL
CAL is used for calibration of peak to peak voltage (VP-P) or peak to peak voltage.
  7. POSITIONPosistion is used to set the Vertical position (each Channel/Channel has a POSITION regulator).
  8. INV (INVERT)
When the INV button is pressed, the input signal in question will be reversed.
  9. The VOLT/
DIVSakelar switch used to select the amount of voltage per centimeter (Volt/Div) on the Oscilloscope screen. Generally, oscilloscopes have two channels (dual channels) with two VOLT/DIV Switches. There is usually a 0.01V/Div to 20V/Div option.
  10. Variable
function in the Oscilloscope is to regulate the sensitivity (sensitivity) of the vertical direction on the channel or Channel in question. Variable Maximum Rotation is a CAL that serves to calibrate the Voltage of 1 Volt right at 1cm on the Oscilloscope Screen.
  11. AC – DC
Ac selection is used to measure AC signals, input signals containing DC will be held/blocked by a capacitor. While in the DC position option, the Input Terminal will be directly connected to the Amplifier in the Oscilloscope and all input signals will be displayed on the Oscilloscope screen.
  12. GNDIf the GND button is activated, then the INPUT Terminal will open, Inputs sourced from Internal Oscilloscope reinforcement will be grounded.
  13. VERTICAL INPUT CH-1
As VERTICAL INPUT for Channel 1 (Channel 1)
  14. VERTICAL INPUT CH-2
As VERTICAL INPUT for Channel 2 (Channel 2)
  15. MODE
Switches generally consist of 4 options, namely CH1, CH2, DUAL and ADD. CH1 = For Channel 1 (Channel 1) waveform views. CH2 = For channel 2 (Channel 2) waveform display. DUAL = To display the waveforms of Channel 1 (CH1) and Channel 2 (CH2) simultaneously. ADD = To sum both channel inputs algebraically. The sum will be a single waveform image on the screen.
  16. x10
MAGFor magnification of frequencies up to 10 times.
  17. POSITIONFor setting up the left-right display on the screen.
  18. XY
In this XY function is used, Channel 1 Input will be Axis X and Channel 2 Input will be Axis Y.
  19. The TIME/DIV
Switch is used to select a time scale from a period or per one cm box on the Oscilloscope screen.
  20. This CAL (TIME/DIV) button
    works for TIME/DIV calibration
  21. VARIABLE
Variable function in the Horizontal section is to regulate the sensitivity (sensitivity) of TIME / DIV.
  22. GNDGND is a connector connected to ground.
  23. Chop and
ALTCHOP keys are using pieces from channel 1 and channel 2.ALT or Alternate is using channel 1 and channel 2 alternately.
  24. HOLD
OFFHOLD OFF to silence the image on the oscilloscope screen.
  25. LEVELLEVEL or TRIGGER LEVEL is used to set the obtained image to still or motionless.
  26. NORM and AUTO buttons
  27. LOCK button
  28. COUPLING
switchEs Show relationships with unidirectional (DC) or alternating (AC) signals.
  29. SOURCE
    switchBreakering signal selection.
  30. TRIGGER ALT
  31. SLOPE
  32. EXTTrigger is controlled from a circuit outside the Oscilloscope.

Appearance on Screen (Display)

  1. Oscilloscope Screen
  2. Trace, a line drawn by an oscilloscope representing a signal
  3. Horizontal Grid Line
  4. Garis Grid Vertical
  5. Horizontal and Vertical Midline
